For golf lovers that would like to improve
their score while on Maui or for those that
would like to learn correctly right from the
beginning, the brand new, "Kapalua Golf
Academy" opened recently. The Mercedes
Championship Tournament is held at Kapalua's,
Plantation Course annually and this Maui
tournament is part of the P.G.A. Tour.
Kapalua Bay Beach was named "The World's
Most Beautiful Beach" by a popular travel
magazine for three years in a row.
A short drive from anywhere in west Maui, you
will find tiny, historic, Lahaina town. Building
height and design restrictions keep Lahaina
charming. It's rich history extends back to the
Hawaiian Kingdom era, through the whaling period
and to the present.
Lahaina was once the capital of the kingdom
of Hawaii. Walking tours of Lahaina are
available for those interested in the history of
this unique little town. Visiting the
Carthaginian, a restored four mast Ed sailing
vessel, now a mini-museum at Lahaina Harbor, is
an interesting stop.
Strolling down Lahaina's Front Street on a
balmy Maui evening, dipping into the numerous
art galleries and stopping at an, over the
ocean, restaurant for a bite to eat, is truly a
romantic experience for newlyweds.
If you ask us, we will recommend to you some
of our favorite West Maui eateries, from
"hole in the wall" and Hawaiian plate
lunch wagons to exquisite fine dinning by the
sea.
You may also be surprised to see one of the world's few remaining, fully restored, narrow
gauge, trains chugging along between Ka'anapali
and Lahaina. This nostalgic train contributes to
the unique nature and feeling of West Maui. Jeff
has even performed weddings aboard this happy
little train.
